Hello lovelies, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and although the month is winding down, that is no excuse to take your health screening lightly! Getting a mammogram can help to prevent Breast Cancer, they should be done yearly, but check with your health care network and or your healthcare practicioner about how often, your need for this lifesaving screening, should be.
As women, mothers, sisters, friends we all should look out for one another. It can be scary to get your first test, but the relief of getting it off your mind, makes it the right thing to do. If it's your first screening the test can take anywhere from 20-30 minutes, you will be asked to fill out general health information, beforehand and you cannot wear any lotions, powders, creams, or deodorants. It is also recommended that you wear comfortable clothing on the day of the test. I know this sounds like a lot of work, but putting off your test doesn't change the need to keep yourself as healthy as possible.
Even if you have to be retested, keep in mind that you made the important step of getting tested. If you are not feeling well, be sure to follow up with your doctor, and opt for 2nd or 3rd opinions, anything to help put your mind at ease. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but you can get important testing year round. I hope this helps ease your mind somewhat, and have included this guide, to help you improve early detection.
